In Science web site, there is a list of some of the most interesting science stories in 2008. There are altogether 10 top stories, the ranking is based on how many times the story has been read.

Let me mention my favourites. First, the wolverine frog. What the hell is that? Anybody who has seen X-men knows Wolverine, who has claws pop out from his hands when he is about to fight, and he has exceptional healing power. Scientists have found such frogs in nature. They have claws popped out when they are threatened, and they can heal quickly.

Another story I find interesting is self-sacrifice ants. For a particular type of Brazillian ant, every night, there are some worker ants seal the entrance of their nest from outside, and they have to stay outside and die. They commit suicide for the benefits of the whole ant community.

Since this blog is mainly about physics, I have to tell you a physics story. Researchers have managed to store the vacuum and then retrieve it. Well, I am sorry that the beauty of physics story is usually more difficult for layman to appreciate. This technical achievement is very important for quantum computing. Potentially, this advancement may enable researchers to develop quantum memory, quantum encryption and I don’t know.

Don’t forget to check out other stories here.
